Accepting compliments is not that hard. It’s the work to get there that is, and it is worth it.
“Caroline came to our home to take our family and my daughter’s newborn photos. It was absolute chaos with a toddler, a newborn, two dogs, and two very tired parents, but she managed to turn it into the most beautiful pictures we have ever had. Her talent goes beyond what I can put in words here. She captured a special moment in our life, and we have truly stunning images to take with us forever.”
A dad’s hand on your newborn daughter’s tummy, lying in her cot in the morning light. It’s more than just a hand on a baby’s tummy in the morning light. You know what I mean, right? I din’t ask for this simple gesture to happen, it happened. The very reason is because it is a simple, everyday gesture. How many of you have gone to check on your sleeping baby, to check they are still breathing, and put that hand of yours on their tiny little round tummy, going up and down quickly?
These fabulous words by Heather mean the world to me on their own, and as I type I feel proud, very proud indeed and happy to have delivered to this family a true portrait of their life, their happy, loving life, right now. Two years ago, these photos would have looked different, not just because of an obvious improved technique, editing, composition, a better lens, a better camera etc… but mostly because of a vision that I have been working hard at finding, developing, trying to stay true to.
If I am honest (do I want you to know that? yeah ok…) the behind the scenes of these images (not on the shoot itself but sometimes!) is a constant stream of self-reflection, thinking process, failing, starting again, working hard at how I am going to prepare you, make something, scrap it, looking at how someone else does it, reject that because it’s not me, and more…phew! But that’s OK, because these images happen, they are what I want to deliver, and I take that compliment. Thank you very much, these words do mean the world to me, and it was my absolute pleasure!
